Luke 3:1 – 5:39

What do you make of the person John in this part of the story? Is there anything you are so passionate about that you feel you have to tell others about it?

Why do you think people are still baptised today? How do you feel about what happened when Jesus was baptised?

Do you know much about your own family history? Why do you think Luke wanted to tell us about the genealogy of Jesus?

Have you ever felt tempted to do something you knew wasn’t right? How did Jesus resist the temptation from the devil in this passage?

What do you think of the words that Jesus read out from the prophet Isaiah, and why do you think this made the people so angry? Do you find it hard to share your beliefs with those closest to you?

The disciples saw could see who Jesus was and left everything behind to follow him. Are there any things in your life that you would find hard to give up if Jesus asked you to?

Do you think God still heals today? How do you feel about the depth of friendship that inspired the commitment of those who brought their friend to Jesus? 

Tax collectors were known to cheat people frequently, but Jesus chose Levi as one of his disciples. What do you think of Jesus’ response that “it is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick”?
